While Air Canada was expected to make changes to win the required approvals from the European Commission, said Walter Spracklin of RBC Dominion Securities, he didn't believe it was in the airline's best interest to put forward an "an uneconomic remedy package that could jeopardize its future ability to compete internationally.

We previously outlined the negative impacts this transaction would have on competition, consumer choice and airfares and remain focused on contributing to Canada's recovery from COVID Poirier expects Transat will act rapidly to position itself for the eventual recovery of the airline industry. It first needs to secure long-term financing. Most industry analysts didn't include any impact from the transaction in their estimates given the uncertainty of the deal closing and conditions that could be imposed.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published April 5, After failed takeover, Air Transat seeks help as debt crunch looms. If you're looking for a cheap method of getting from point A to point B, Air Transat will do the trick.

You won't get any of the extras, the meals were not particularly good, and the leg room is tight. But I would go with Transat again if I needed to fly somewhere on the cheap. I would do it for any short-haul flight in North America. Cramped seats, crazy uptight baggage restrictions they actually weigh your carry on , no AVOD, etc. Flown Transat many times without a hitch. If you take a look at www. One of them has inches of seat pitch.

This is roughly what you'll find on most of the planes Air Canada flies overseas. The two others have 31 inches of seat pitch. I remember a couple of years ago Air Transat announced they were upgrading all of their planes to 32 inches in economy.

I'm 6 feet tall, and I can be reasonably comfortable with a long flight at 32 inches, although I prefer 33 inches. Once you get down to 31 inches I start to have some knee pain after 4 or 5 hours. As well the seat width on Air Transat is less than other airlines.

That's never been a problem for me, but for others it may be a big deal. I'm unsure if they ever did get around to upgrading all or their planes.

Or it's possible they modified or bought new planes with the 31 inches that seat guru is mentioning. All that being said, the couple of times I flown Air Transat it was fine. As already mentioned the biggest problem is if something happens and a flight is cancelled, Air Transat normally won't handle the situation as well as larger airlines such as Air Canada.

The main reason being is that Air Transat has much fewer planes and it's more difficult for them to find empty seats on their future flights. Besides that, if nothing goes wrong everything should be fine. Be aware of the lower luggage limits. And if you care about the lack of seat back entertainment, I guess that's a problem, although my suggestion would be to be less of a wimp.

The price different can be quite large, depending on the route you are flying. If money if a concern, as it is for most people, I'd happily recommend Air Transat.

It probably had the least leg room of any long haul flight I had taken.
